Below are questions commonly asked by students (and/or their parents) who wish to apply to join TWGSB6. Do read these if you have any queries as you may find the answer here. If not, please feel free to email us at: sixthformadmissions@twgsboys.kent.sch.uk.
How do I get a place at TWGSB? You need to achieve 48 points from your best eight GCSE results. You will also need to meet the following criteria with regard to grades:
5+ English language
5+ Maths
6+ in qualifying subjects for courses you wish to study
7 in Maths to study Maths
8 in Maths to study Further Maths
Please refer to the Sixth Form prospectus for further clarification.
What is your admissions criteria? Please note we follow the same admissions criteria, as we do for our Year 7 entry –see Secondary Determined Arrangements for 2026–27 (pages 13–18).
I am not studying UK GCSE subjects (I am in another country with different examinations). Can I still apply to TWGSB6 even though the points system doesn’t work with how my exams are graded? At TWGSB6 we accept only Ofqual-regulated qualifications as part of our Sixth Form application process. You may still be able to apply to join our Sixth Form but you will need a Statement of Comparability. Please visit the ENIC website for further information. You will need to contact the school to take your application further.
Do you offer the EPQ at all? We do offer the EPQ if numbers and staffing allow.
Why can I not select two A Levels from the same block? The blocks are organised according to timetable allocations and cannot be changed.
Do I need to send in my predicted grades? No, we do not need your predicted grades; please just upload your results on Results Day.
Can I take four A Levels? You are only able to take four A Levels if the fourth subject is Further Maths.
How many external applicants do you take? This varies each year depending on the number of TWGSB students admitted on Results Day as internal applicants take priority over external applicants. We cannot predict the number of spaces we will have for externals. However, this has been between 50 and 60 students over the past three years.
Do you interview all your candidates or take up references? We do not ask for references or invite candidates for interview.
Who should I contact regarding SEN and Access Arrangements? Please email SEND@twgsboys.kent.sch.uk. Our SENCO and team will endeavour to respond to your queries. Please note that for all students transitioning from KS4 to KS5 there is no guarantee that the same access arrangements will be in place, as all arrangements must be reviewed and a new application made to comply with new JCQ regulations.
You have only one Open Evening advertised. Is this all you do for external candidates? Yes, we hold only one open event per year. Please do look at the Sixth Form pages on the school website for information or email us if you have any specific questions. Please note we are unable to offer private tours.
I applied to TWGSB6 within the specified dates but haven’t heard anything since? You should have received confirmation that your application has been received. Please check your junk/spam folders and then email us at sixthformadmissions@twgsb.kent.sch.uk if you haven’t received this.
I want to change the subjects that I have applied for? If you are an external candidate, you will be able to make any changes on Results Day. If you are an internal candidate, then please email sixthformadmissions@twgsboys.kent.sch.uk to discuss any changes as soon as possible.
How do I know if I have been offered a place with you? We do not send out formal offers. The acknowledgement of your application is confirmation that you are on our list and will be considered for a place on Results Day if you meet our criteria. You will not hear from us again until the end of the summer term when we explain what will happen on Results Day.
Is it possible to apply after the deadline? Yes, however this may mean that you are initially added to the waiting list. Please apply in the usual way via the online application form. If this is closed, please email us at sixthformadmissions@twgsb.kent.sch.uk.
How do I let you know my results? Please upload them to your Applicaa profile once you have received them on Results Day. If there is a technology issue, you can send them by email, however dealing with your application is much quicker if you upload them to Applicaa.
How do you offer places on Results Day? We use our standard oversubscription subscription criteria in the first instance (see Secondary Determined Arrangements for 2026–27, pages 13–18). However, ultimately it will depend on how many spaces we have in the subjects you wish to study.
After Results Day, do you have a waiting list even if all classes are at capacity? Yes, we will be able to add you to a waiting list and contact you if spaces become available. Things do change after the initial acceptance of places so please let us know if you still wish to be considered for a place. Offers may still be made two weeks after Results Day.
If a subject choice is full at the start of term but spaces become available, is there a chance to swap subjects? There may be an opportunity to change subject choices if spaces become available, however this is usually only possible within the first few weeks of the term.
