An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to appoint an experienced and outstanding SENCO to be the lead of our SEND Department.

The SENCO will:

  • Be operational lead on SEND matters across the school.
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEN or a disability.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies.

You will ensure the school’s SEND provision is effectively managed by providing professional guidance of SEND to teaching staff in order to maintain and increase a high-quality standard of teaching, to make good use of resources to improve standards and achieve positive outcomes for the students.

You will be a qualified teacher who also holds the National Award for SEND Coordination. You will also be expected to fulfil the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.

The SEND department comprises an Assistant SENCO and a small number of Learning Support Assistants. They work across both the Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks campuses in order to support all students to achieve their potential and help teaching staff to deliver their lessons according to need. There are SEND Hubs on both campuses, each with a sensory space where students can self-regulate and calm. Access to both Hubs is by invitation only to keep numbers appropriate and the spaces calm and quiet. They can be accessed at break and lunchtimes.

We are currently undergoing a period of transformational change benefiting from a multi-million pound investment in Tunbridge Wells and a brand new building at our Sevenoaks campus, which opened in September 2021. From September 2025 Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys will be one of the largest boys’ grammar schools in the country. Here we all share the same vision: ‘To be the best selective boys’ school in West Kent’ and our journey towards achieving this continues to be an exciting one.

We can offer you the opportunity to work with highly able young people in a supportive, well-equipped and forward-thinking school. We offer a friendly and inclusive working environment and the chance to be part of a fantastic multidisciplinary team, who work hard and support each other to deliver personalised, bespoke education and care.

Staff benefit from a positive working environment, with strong support for professional development and specialist teaching rooms. We aim for high standards and the pursuit of academic excellence, helping every student to reach their full potential through the development of skills, concepts and knowledge, within the framework of a caring community. Relationships between staff and students are based on trust, mutual respect and a determination to succeed.

Please note that we will only accept CVs that are accompanied by an application form (see below). We shall review applications as we receive them so apply early! We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
