PTA Newsletter – April 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that you are all keeping well in these very strange and challenging times.
As a PTA, our purpose is not only to fundraise for the school, but also to create a community for our parent body and we’d like to find ways of supporting each other during this crisis, even if we can’t come together to do it.
One idea is to compile a directory of the local businesses that any of you may be involved with, so that when social distancing eases, we can ensure that everyone has this information and knows what products and services are available from our parents and carers, giving us an opportunity to show our support for local businesses within our extended parent family.
If this is something that you think would help you, please email in the name of your business or service to firstname.lastname@example.org. Also include your business contact details, website address if you have one, what you offer, and whether you do local delivery etc. If you can get it to us by 10th May, we will pull it together and then send out to all our parents and carers. Hopefully this will help to promote your business and, as a community, we can come together and support you when making purchases or looking for services.
Our other function as a PTA is to raise money to support our children’s education at school. All our usual means of doing this are on hold at the moment. We know that these are very difficult times financially for many of us. However, for anyone who is in a position to support the PTA and who would like to, there are a number of ways that you can still do this, some at no cost!
Online shopping activity has increased significantly during lockdown and there are some websites that will make a donation to charity every time you purchase through them, at no cost to yourself. These include:
Easyfundraising: we have registered with Easyfundraising, which means you can now raise free donations for the PTA when you shop online. Easyfundraising has over 4,000 shops and sites which will donate to us at no extra cost to yourself, including lots of big name retailers like John Lewis, Argos, Uswitch, eBay, M&S, Just Eat, Now TV, Domino's Pizza and Audible. All you have to do is sign up to support us using this link: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/twgsbpta/?utm_campaign=raise-more&utm_content=gs-e1. Then, every time you shop online, go through the Easyfundraising website or app and we’ll receive a % of your spend as a free donation, at no cost to you or us. These donations really mount up and will make a big difference to the funds that we have to support the school and our children’s education, so we would really appreciate it if you could take a moment to sign up and support us.
Amazon: TWGSB PTA is now listed as an official charity on smile.amazon.co.uk. If you shop on Amazon simply go to https://smile.amazon.co.uk/ch/1027114-0 and select Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys Parent Teacher Association and shop as normal. Amazon will make a donation to the PTA at no cost to yourself, so it’s an easy way to generate funds for the school, without even noticing it.
Finally, we obviously cannot run the summer raffle or any of our usual events for the foreseeable future. If you usually support these and would still like to do so, it is possible for you to make a donation to the PTA via our PTA events pages, using this link: https://www.pta-events.co.uk/twgsbpta/.
We hope that the above suggestions may help during the coming weeks and months. With social distancing, we cannot come together physically as a school community. However, we are keen to support each other, so please get in touch if you have other ideas of how we may do this.
With all best wishes,
Chair, TWGSB PTA
