Transition to Sixth Form 2020

Preparing for A Level success

Year 11 students should now be looking ahead to the next stage of their education and beginning to prepare for A Level transition. School closures, loss of curriculum time and cancellation of 2020 exams mean this transition work is more important than ever. It provides a focus for the students in these strange times and will help close any knowledge gaps.

Starting Sixth Form studies is an exciting time and, over the next few months, we would like students to look at their chosen subjects and begin preparing for a successful start. First of all, students should download and complete the 'Successful Transition to A Level Studies' booklet, and watch the narrated presentation.

All the transition work for the A Level subjects is available to download below, and consists of 12 hours' independent work per course. The learning tasks will help consolidate subject content, develop key skills, prepare students for their first topics in each A Level subject, and suggest areas for wider reading.

Students should bring the completed transition work and/or evidence of these tasks to their first day of lessons, ready to hand into their teachers.

Induction day

A key date for your diary is the new Year 12s virtual Transition Day on Tuesday 7th July.

Start of the 2020/21 academic year

If you have been offered a place at TWGSB, met the entry requirements and accepted your place on results day, you will be starting in the Sixth Form on Thursday 3rd September 2020.

You will need to arrive on that first day in business dress (see Sixth Form Dress Code) ready for our induction programme. Lessons will begin on Friday 4th September. You should bring the completed summer transition work  ready to hand into your teachers.

Enjoy your summer and we look forward to working with you over the next two years.
