Year 11 Geography Field Trip to Pett Level (Group 2)

21st February 2018 Pett Level

Year 11 Geography Field Trip to Pett Level on Monday 19 February or Wednesday 21 February 2018

I am pleased to be able to inform you that a field trip has been arranged to visit Pett Level in Sussex on the above dates. Groups 11C (Mr Ash’s class) and the first half of 11A (Mr Carr’s class) up to and including surnames with the letter H will go on Monday 19 February. Please be aware that this is the first day back after half term so students will need to remember to return to school prepared for this trip.

11B (Mrs Dodd’s class) and the second half of 11A (Mr Carr’s class) from surnames beginning with the letter J will go on Wednesday 21 February 2018.

It is a requirement for the new Geography GCSE specification that students carry out two geographical enquiries, each of which must include the use of primary data, collected as part of a fieldwork investigation. We have satisfied the exam criteria for the Human Geography component by visiting Greenwich in Year 10. This trip will support the work being done in class on Coasts and will contribute to the Physical Geography component of paper 3. Students’ understanding of the enquiry process will then be assessed in Paper 3: Geography Applications in the Summer of 2018. It is therefore essential that your son attends this fieldtrip.

We will leave school by coach at 9.10am and return from Pett Level in time to arrive back at school by 3.30pm. If we are later than this, the boys will need to make their own way home.

Most of the day will be spent out of doors and there is an element of walking. Boys should inform their teacher if they consider this to be a problem. School uniform does not need to be worn, but boys should expect wet and cold weather and should dress accordingly. Boys should also bring a packed lunch to be eaten at a convenient moment during the day. There are toilet facilities but no opportunity to buy any food or drink.
