Cricket: Year 7 are through to the Kent Cup Final
TWGSB won by 12 runs. We scored 87 for 7 and Rochester Maths were 76 all out. The final will be on Thursday 29th June against Skinners or Simon Langton.
TWGSB Year 7s, led by Jacob Webb, reached the Kent T20 final by defeating Rochester Mathematical School by 12 runs.
TWGSB won the toss elected to bat and were 29 for 2off two overs, with one fine six scored by Webb over deep backward square–leg. Webb(32) Metcalf (10) Bradley (10) were the pick of our batting, boosted by late order shot making by Dylan Bran ( 8 not out). Thackeray and Metcalf squeezed their openers, ably supported by Austin and Parker at first change and RMS were scoring at first two an over and then three an over when Austin defeated their opener for pace and they were 37 for 2 off eleven overs. Webb’s direct hit further dented their cause from the first ball after the drink’s interval.
TWGSB were aware that they were going to advance down the wicket and try and pierce the infield, so alert wicket-keeping and three great catches by Webb and Austin low down saw RMS’s reply slowly flounder. Rayner effected a fine run out with a throw from the boundary. One lofted drive and a flat bat slog through midwicket were the only boundaries conceded and the “death” bowling was efficient; wickets tumbling at regular intervals through alert fielding, with Snowdon impressing on debut as wicket-keeper and Gale, Bran, Austin, Webb, Parker and Thackerey focussed on protecting our lead.
