TWGSB 1st XI winners of Kent Premier League
Mr Menzies is very pleased to announce that TWGSB 1st XI has won the Kent Premier League this season. "We are delighted with how football continues to flourish at TWGSB. This season the 1st XI has performed very well to win the league, the U’12 team has done brilliantly to reach Round 6 (Last 32) of the national cup and the U’14B team has reached the last 16 of the National Cup.”
TWGSB Crowned Kent Champions
TWGSB U’18 1st XI football team has won the Kent Premier League this season. This is the 6th time in the last 12 years, and the 3rd time in the last 5 years, that the school’s 1st XI has won the Kent Premier League. The league is for grammar schools across Kent.
The league commenced in mid-September with a 1-1 draw away at Dane Court GS in Broadstairs. 2-0 and 4-2 victories followed against Dover GS and Harvey GS in Folkestone. The team then recorded an impressive 4-2 victory against Maidstone GS on the 3G pitch at TWGSB. Further victories were achieved with a 3-0 away win at Norton Knatchbull in Ashford and a 5-3 away win at QES in Faversham. The team drew 2-2 away at Rochester Maths but responded with an outstanding 4-0 win against eventual runners-up Simon Langton GS from Canterbury. The team suffered a 4-2 defeat away at Borden GS in Sittingbourne before a 2-0 win against Chatham and Clarendon GS from Ramsgate.
In the national cup the team reached Round 5 the last 32 teams in England. The team achieved comfortable 4-0, 12-0, 9-0 and 3-1 victories in the previous rounds before losing 4-2 in a high quality match away at Bede’s near Eastbourne.
Lucas Murrain, Max Borland and Oli Ricketts were all members of the 1st XI squad which won the Kent League and Cup double in the 2014-15 season. Many members of this year’s squad won the U’17 Kent Cup last season and have won the Kent U’16 Futsal competition for the last two seasons with the team two years ago finishing as runners-up in South East England.
Lucas Murrain, Max Borland and Dan Flint have all played for Kent U’18s this season whilst Miller Grice has been selected to play for the Kent U’18B team. Max Borland was selected for England Schools U’18 trials. Ewen Jeffery has also represented Kent Schools last season and striker Louis Collins has captained Kent FA U’16’s this season.
