60th Anniversary Ball

After 9 months of fervent planning, a Ball to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys was held on Saturday. Nearly 200 tickets were sold to parents, staff, Governors and old boys who all enjoyed a wonderful evening at Salomons Estate – just a stone’s throw from the school itself. Guests were greeted on the terrace, thanks to unseasonably warm weather, where they could enjoy the lovely views of the estate and a drinks reception accompanied by a harpist, Jane Lister. The evening continued with a delicious three course meal in the Theatre which was decked out with twinkling lights and table decorations in the school colours. Local magician Robert Pound was enjoyed by all as he circulated the tables and astounded everyone with his sleight of hand. The entertainment didn’t end there as after the meal, space for a dance floor was cleared and the band Never Too Late struck up. They delivered a brilliant 2 hour set with a wide variety of music that got everyone up and dancing the night away – there were certainly a few sore feet the next day!

The Ball was an even more special event as it was attended by the Headmaster, John Harrison, who had recently announced his retirement after 10 years at the school. For those not wanting to dance, or who just needed a breather, a timeline charting the history of the school to date and a short film were also on show near the bar. It truly was an evening to remember with a wonderful atmosphere and something for everyone to enjoy.
