Government changes - amended A-Level Press Release

PRESS RELEASE - 18th August 2020

A LEVEL RESULTS STATEMENT

amended to reflect Government assessment changes     -

In a year of unprecedented circumstances, it is testament to the talent and determination of the Year 13 at Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys that many have secured places on some of the most competitive courses at prestigious universities, including, for example, Law at Cambridge, History and Politics on a Choral Scholarship at Cambridge, Chemistry at Oxford, Maths and Natural Sciences at Bath University, Modern Languages also at Bath, History and International Relations at Exeter, and Law at Durham. Many students are also following creative courses such as Fashion at Edinburgh University and Acting and Creative Technology at Chichester as well as many students studying Media.

We are exceptionally proud of our Year 13 cohort.  Throughout their A level journey, they have worked incredibly hard being both committed and conscientious in their studies. They have demonstrated a resilience and determination beyond their years in dealing with the exceptional circumstances of 2020 thus far.

Headteacher Amanda Simpson confirms “As an A level cohort, we are proud to say that the Class of 2020 are the brightest cohort that TWGSB has ever had.  The Centre Assessed Grades (CAG) that the school submitted reflect this and are completely underpinned by a rigorous and robust evidence-based process.

We are overjoyed that the Government and Ofqual have now agreed that CAG are the fairest approach to assessment and the best way to reflect students’ prior performance. Students are individuals and not numbers on a distribution curve.

To our students I say - you are an amazing and talented bunch with the resilience and human compassion to make such a positive contribution to society as you go forward.”
