Football: U17 win the Kent Cup
Boys Grammar claims Kent Cup
The Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys U’17 Football team won the Kent Cup when they beat Hayes School from Bromley 2-1 in the Final. The match was played at Culverden Stadium, Tunbridge Wells FC in front of 200 spectators. TWGSB started brightly and went ahead after 15 minutes when striker Louis Leipsegar-Mason calmly slotted the ball past the onrushing keeper from 20 yards. The lead was doubled after 25 minutes when the team produced an excellent move down the right hand side. Jake Smith linked well with Max Borland who beat a couple of players and did well to keep the ball in. He set the ball to right Midfielder Harry Gammer who produced a good cross which was met first time by left midfielder Charlie Sargeant who placed the ball past the keeper. After 30 minutes Hayes pulled a goal back from an excellent header from a wide free-kick. Lucas Murrain had a good chance to increase the lead in the second half when he dribbled through but the Hayes keeper made a vital save. Players began to tire in the final 15 minutes and TWGSB defended very well under some pressure in the closing moments. The match finished 2-1 to TWGSB securing the Kent Cup. Lucas Murrain and Max Borland have also played for Kent Schools U’17s this season.
The boys excelled themselves, well done.
