Headteachers End of Term Newsletter Term 6
21 July 2017Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Friends of the School,
As I write my final introduction to a Newsletter I am amazed at how quickly the past seven months have gone. It has been a huge privilege to be the Headteacher of Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys and I am grateful to the staff, students and parents for the support that they have given me and the school and I would like to say a special ’thank you’ to the parents who responded to the recent plea from the Science Department with offers of fridges and cash funding. We really are very grateful.
Since the last newsletter we have continued a year of sporting success with Year 7 lifting the Kent Cricket Cup, we have seen students fly off to take part in an Outlook Expedition in Borneo and Activities Week has seen a wide range of trips in the UK and abroad as well as a wide variety of In-House activities. I am indebted to my colleagues who give up a huge amount of time to plan and accompany these trips to enhance the life experiences of our students.
Inevitably the end of the year brings changes in staffing and we say a fond farewell to Mr Coen who is retiring after 18 years here as Deputy Head. We thank him for all that he has done for the School over the years and I am particularly grateful to him for the help and support that he has given me over the last seven months. We wish him a long and happy retirement.
We also say farewell to Mrs Johnson (Head of Media Studies), Mr Eaves (English), Mr Pearce (Music Technician) who is beginning teacher training, Mrs Croot (Spanish), Mr Skues (Head of Sociology), Miss Snook (Biology), Mrs Blakeman (Maths), Mr Fromentin (French) and Mr Sood (Business Studies). I thank them all for their contribution to the life of TWGSB and wish them the very best for the future.
I wish all our students and staff a very happy and restful summer break and look forward to congratulating our Year 11 and 13 students on what I am sure will be considerable exam success in August. I also look forward welcoming old and new students and staff to the School in September for the start of the new academic year and particularly, of course, our new Headteacher Ms Amanda Simpson.
Mr S C Marsh, Acting Headteacher
