Chemistry Teacher (ability to teach Chemistry to A Level an advantage)

We are looking for a well-qualified and talented full-time science teacher to start in September 2014. Working within a successful, flourishing and supportive department, you will have excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills; the ability to raise attainment through motivating and inspiring students; a passion for teaching and the capacity to reflect on and develop your teaching skills.

The successful candidate will be able to teach Science to GCSE with the possibility of A level teaching if suitably qualified.

The department regularly achieves high value added scores despite high scores on entry to the School.  Separate sciences are offered as an option at GCSE. At A level, uptake and success rates are strong.  The Key Stage 3 curriculum is delivered in Years 7, 8, with GCSE in Years 9-11 inclusive. We teach Dual and Triple Award GCSE (AQA Science A), and AQA Chemistry A Level.

The science Department has twelve teaching staff (five of whom are part-time) and four technicians (two of whom are part-time). We have eleven laboratories and two suites of laptops for use in lessons.

The department also encourages students to be involved with various lunchtime clubs and we would expect that the successful candidate would participate in this.

The School enjoys a stable staff, good resources and very strong parental support.

The OFSTED Report of 2013 stated that:

  • “Students’ high GCSE attainment and above-average A-level results prepare them well for the future.”
  • “Students’ behaviour is excellent.”
  • “The Head teacher has high aspirations to raise students’ achievement further and this is shared by staff and students.”

If you feel you have the drive, energy and ambition to contribute to the future development and success of our science department and the school, please feel welcome to apply. The post is suitable for either an NQT or an experienced teacher.
