Constitution
At the next meeting the name of the organisation will be formaly reviewed and should be changed to Alumni. To save costs we have changed the name on the website ahead of this meeting as we were changing other items on the site.
- The name of the organisation shall be "The Former Staff and Old Boys’ Association of the Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys". The short title shall be "Tunbridge Wells Boys’ Grammar School Old Boys’ Association".
- The objects of the Association shall be:
- To continue and promote the friendships and relationships established at school;
- To organise social events and opportunities for such relationships to occur;
- To inform members with a newsletter about old boys, staff and activities at the school; and
- To provide resources and support, where appropriate, for the Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys.
- The officers of the Association shall be a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, and such other Officers as may be determined by the Committee. The positions of all Officers shall be unpaid honorary posts. All officers, except for the Chairman of any meeting, shall be entitled to vote at a meeting of the Committee. The Chairman shall only vote in the event of a tie, in which event he shall have a casting vote which must be used to preserve the status quo.
- The Officers and members of the Committee shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting of the Association, which shall be held in October or November each year. No officer shall stand for a post for more than three consecutive terms.
- At a General Meeting, each member shall have one vote. Voting shall be on a show of hands, but any member shall have the right to call for a poll.
- Membership of the Association shall be dependent upon having been at Tunbridge Wells Technical School, Tunbridge Wells Technical High School or Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys, either as a student or member of staff. People who do not qualify for membership may be invited to be Honorary Members at the discretion of the Committee.
- A membership fee shall be payable by each member. The amount of the fee and the frequency of payment shall be decided by the Committee. The membership fee may be waived in appropriate circumstances at the discretion of the Committee.
- The quorum for the Committee shall be five, and for the Annual General Meeting or an Extraordinary General Meeting shall be fifteen.
- The current Headmaster of the school from time to time shall be invited to be Honorary President of the Association. His duties shall be determined by the Committee.
- This Constitution may only be changed at an Annual General Meeting or an Extraordinary General Meeting.
- An Extraordinary General Meeting may be requisitioned by not fewer than twenty members, giving at least six weeks’ notice to the Secretary or Chairman.
- Properly written up books of account shall be maintained by the Treasurer and shall be audited not less than once per year. The books shall be open for inspection by any member on the giving of reasonable prior notice.
- Should the Association be wound up, the balance of any monies shall be distributed to a charity or charities to be decided at a General Meeting or the Steering Committee.
