Sixth Form Admissions

We welcome all boys into the Sixth Form who meet our entry requirements and hope that the school can provide the courses commensurate with their aspirations and abilities. As well as boys from our own school, we are pleased to receive applications from students of either sex from other schools.

In Year 12, all our students will study four subjects at AS Level, in addition to General Studies and Key Skills. AS is an interim stage between GCSE and full Advanced Level. At the end of the year, students will sit external examinations in the AS subjects. It is anticipated that the majority will then choose to carry on three of their four subjects to full Advanced Level at the end of Year 13, together with General Studies. Some students may continue with all four of their subjects.

Deciding to go into the Sixth Form should not be rushed. However, decisions need to be made before the GCSE results are published. Courses can usually be adjusted to take into account unexpected results. In order to study four AS Levels successfully students should have obtained a minimum of six Bs at GCSE. A grade B is the minimum grade required to study a subject at AS level. All students are expected to attain a minimum of grade C in English and Mathematics as part of their overall qualifications to enter the Sixth Form. It is our experience that to be really successful with Advanced Level studies you should comfortably exceed these requirements at GCSE.
