Ethos
We aim to offer students the opportunities to acquire knowledge and understanding of a range of places, environments and geographical patterns at a range of scales. They will develop a sense of place and an appreciation of the environment and people’s interaction with it. They will gain in their understanding of global citizenship and the significance of people’s values and attitudes in how decisions are made relating to geographical issues, such as the environment and resources. New skills will be developed, and old ones honed, including mapwork, fieldwork, and information and communication technology which will be used to conduct geographical study and enquiry.
All Geography rooms are fitted with digital projectors, visualisers and interactive whiteboards to enhance and illustrate lessons.
OFSTED noted that “pupils have very positive attitudes towards Geography; they enjoy the subject and work very hard.”
Years 7 – 9
Topics covered at KS3 include Population, Environmental Concerns, Development linked to Sport, Climate Change Rivers and Coasts.
All years will have a field trip linked to the curriculum studied:

Geography is a very popular choice at GCSE and AS/A-Level with 106 students in Year 10 following GCSE. Results are consistently good, with 64% attaining A* or A and 83% attaining A*, A or B in 2008.
Enrichment
There is a thriving Geography Club and each year we enter the Geographical Association’s Worldwize Quiz. Many field trips are offered and last a group of 54 pupils from Years 10 and 11 visited Iceland in 2008 and we are planning to run a similar trip in 2010. (see video)
