Year 10 Trip to Madrid
Year 10 Residential Trip to Madrid – Activities Week (Monday-Friday)
As part of our Spanish GCSE course, we offer students the opportunity to go on a residential trip to Spain’s capital city Madrid, usually during Activities Week (early/mid July).
The aim of the trip is to enable students to gain further insight into the culture and society of a Spanish speaking country as well as to practise their spoken Spanish in “real situations”.
Some of the excursions include visits to the famous “Las Ventas” bullring, the “Santiago Bernabéu” football stadium, “El Retiro” park, “El Zoológico de Madrid” zoo and “El Parque Warner” (Theme Park).
We also attend both a flamenco and a cooking lesson.
Students will have one morning of Spanish lessons taught by native speakers at a language school in Madrid. The aim of this lesson is to study practical language that can be used during their time in Madrid and to learn more about Spanish culture.
We stay at a local hotel in Madrid and travel by coach to attractions that are not walking distance from the hotel. The accommodation is half-board, therefore students have to bring their own money in euros in order to buy lunch as well as any spending money that they may need. We recommend approximately 20 euros per day for lunch, personal expenses, drinks and snacks. Their evening meal is taken at restaurants near the hotel most of the time.
In 2016-2017 the cost of the trip was in the region of £600.00 flying with British Airways. The cost includes flights, transfers, four nights bed and breakfast accommodation at a local hotel, all evening meals, language, cooking and flamenco lessons plus all excursions and transfers. Full travel insurance from KCC is also be included. The price can vary slightly according to the take-up of the pupils.
