Year 7 TWGSB defeated Simon Langton Grammar School in the final of the Kent U12 T20 at Rodmersham CC.
Jacob Webb ably led the team in wins against St Olave’s, Judd, Ashford Preparatory and Rochester Mathematical School, scoring a fine 65 runs in the final.
The final was a dramatic match with TWGSB at one time three wickets down after ten balls having elected to bat. However, Finn Snowden and Sam Gale supported the skipper sensibly and a score of 144 off 30 overs was a fine recovery. Zac Austin and Ben Metcalf bowled a fine opening spell, supported at first change by Joe Thackray and Adam Parker.
At 55 for 5 Simon Langton rallied, but Webb tightened things with fine spin bowling from one end and Thackray’s double-wicket maiden swung the match TWGSB’s way: the last batsman perishing at mid-on thirty runs short of the target, hammering a ball that picked out Webb, when a few feet either side and it would have been four. This was a fine catch in keeping with the general good ground fielding, which effected run-outs and backed up the bowling with some fine stops and sharp wicket-keeping.
Full team: Jacob Webb (Capt) Joe Thackray (Vice-captain) Zac Austin, Jo Bradley, Dylan Bran, Sam Gale, Ben Harper, Dan Hughes Ben Metcalf, Adam Parker Ben Rayner, Jack Sanders, and Finn Snowden.
